Our final installment of this year’s Black History Month artist series features Kehinde Wiley, a New York-based visual artist and painter famously known for his approach to realism.
Wiley’s work portrays urban "black and brown" people in heroic, powerful, larger-than-life poses. The paintings often blur the boundaries between traditional and contemporary styles and the portrayal of masculinity and physicality as it relates to the perception of black and brown young men.
Wiley’s paintings were initially based on photographs found on the streets of Harlem. Over time, however, Wiley was led toward an international approach, featuring models found in other urban parts of the world such as Senegal, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro.
Kehinde’s models are asked to assume poses found in paintings or sculptures that represent the history of their surroundings. His heroic paintings exhibit a modern style in a unique and contemporary manner, subtly addressing complex issues that many would prefer remain undiscussed. Focusing on the socio-political history of the world, Wiley’s paintings and sculptures “quote historical sources and position young black men within the field of power.”
Kehinde Wiley’s work is found in many public collections throughout the world, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art; Brooklyn Museum; Detroit Institute of Arts; Kansas City Museum; The Jewish Museum (New York) in New York, New York; High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia; Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California; Hammer Museum, in Los Angeles, California; and the Milwaukee Art Museum among many, many others.
Chilled Magazine recently published a great article about Luxco's newly released Ezra Brooks Straight Rye Whiskey. Cfx designed and developed Ezra Brooks' website, along with the majority of their printed materials and lifestyle photography. We're excited to see this brand grow within the bourbon landscape. Cheers, Ezra!

As we celebrate the achievements and significance of Black Americans in our country’s history, we’d like to kickoff Black History Month by shining a spotlight on local artist, musician, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and close friend of Cfx, Nelly.
Beginning his career as a St. Louis born-and-bred rapper/singer, Nelly has blossomed into a humble businessman and entrepreneur, launching and running the ex’treme Institute by Nelly, and most recently performing at Powell Symphony Hall with the St. Louis Symphony.
Photos by Jon Gitchoff
Nelly also quietly contributes to a wide variety of charities and causes, having donated to such organizations as 21st Century Leaders, 4sho4kids, Ante Up For Africa, Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, ENOUGH Project, Not On Our Watch, and Whatever It Takes.
In recent years Nelly has also developed a scholarship program honoring the late Michael Brown, and has sent an average of two kids to college per year for the last decade.
Check back throughout the month, as we honor various artists that have impacted American culture in humanitarian, entrepreneurial, and artistic endeavors.
As proponents of sustainability and environmental consciousness, Cfx is always looking for ways to reduce our waste and carbon footprint, both at work and at home.
Last week we invited over our friend Bob Henkel of St. Louis Earth Day to hold an in-house Q&A on best practices for recycling and composting. We spent our lunch hour digesting a plethora of good information about recycling resources, composting endeavors, and had the opportunity to address our questions regarding certain materials and procedures.
Bob provided a tremendous amount of insight to our team, and you might be surprised at what is (and isn't) recyclable. Below are a few links where you can learn more about how to properly compost and recycle. Be sure to check out St. Louis Earth Day's website to learn more about their mission and ways you can help sustain our environment.
The most significant and competitive time of year in advertising comes on Super Bowl Sunday. Some of the world's most prominent and influential companies pay millions of dollars for a small chunk of advertising space, in which they hope to capture the attention (and ultimately, the pocketbooks) of consumers worldwide.
We tracked down some leaked commercials for this weekend's Super Bowl matchup, and thought we'd share our top 5 favorites with you.
Kentucky Fried Chicken is becoming known for their off-the-wall humor, and they set the bar even higher with their new campaign "There can be only one at a time."
Mercedes-Benz enrolled the expertise of famous filmmakers, the Coen brothers, and came up with this light-hearted biker-themed ad for their AMG GT Roadster.
4. Avacados From Mexico
Making a name for themselves in recent Super Bowl commercial lineups, Avacados From Mexico brought John Lovitz aboard to hypnotize your senses.
And then there's this rather bizarre TurboTax commercial about Humpty Dumpty doing his taxes on a wall, which utilized some unique scripting and special effects.
Logo design is one of the most underestimated yet vital facets of graphic design. Logos encompass the identity of a company, and should be designed in such a way that makes the company memorable and embodies its personality.
Cfx takes great pride in creating successful logos for our clients, helping them strengthen their identity and bring their brands to life through a simple, iconic mark.
Take a look at some of the logos Cfx has created over the years.
Our favorite part of the holidays wrapping up (other than puns) is the fresh start that the new year brings – not only in theory, but in people’s lifestyles and daily habits. Nearly everyone sets new year’s resolutions with the goal of giving their lives a facelift. Whether the objective is to eat better, exercise more, spend more time with loved ones, eliminate caffeine from one’s diet, or literally get a facelift, the ringing in of the new year brings unanimous hope and optimism.
Cfx has had a phenomenal, fun, adventurous, and productive year, and it’s our sincerest wish that all of you did as well. Cheers to 2017, wishing you and yours blessings of health and happiness. Happy New Year!

This time of year, nearly everyone gets into the holiday spirit. People start decking the halls and trimming the trees, seasonal music pours from storefronts, and a handful of radio stations switch to round-the-clock holiday music for the month of December. Huffords Jewelry is one of Cfx Inc.’s clients that fully embraces the holiday.
Cfx once again partnered with Huffords Jewelry — “making [their] spirits bright” by developing a full marketing campaign for the holiday season.
In addition to the store’s seasonal graphics, Cfx also produced digital assets for Huffords' website, along with supporting materials for Huffords’ social media channels, and a corresponding invitation for their annual holiday event.
To sign up for invitations to Huffords Jewelry’s exclusive events, visit their web page here, and be sure to visit their store in Frontenac for the true Huffords experience.
We just wanted to take a minute to reflect on how thankful we are for all of our Cfxtended family! From our Cfxers (past and present), to clients (prospective and tried-and-true), to our awesome marketing partners — we would not be here without your friendship and support throughout the years.
"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." —William Arthur Ward
So, thank you for all your contributions — large and small — to our success and fortitude! We are truly blessed!

Cfx Inc. was originally enrolled to design Regional Dermatology’s website in mid-2013. The original website served them sufficiently for several years, but in the fashion of all things technological, eventually needed to be refreshed. Cfx was honored to be asked to develop a new, responsive and user-friendly website for patients to more effectively interact with Regional Dermatology and learn about their skin care services.
Located in Festus, Missouri, Regional Dermatology is a private dermatology practice owned and operated by dermatologist and dermapathologist, Dr. Sarah Jensen. Offering a wide range of services both medical and cosmetic, Regional Dermatology provides care from a dual board certified staff, serving patients of all ages and treating a broad spectrum of skin conditions. To see a full description of the services they offer on their new and improved website, visit www.regionaldermatology.com.
Perhaps it’s a growing awareness in the community, or perhaps it’s just a product of getting older … either way, it’s hard to deny the importance of recycling. In addition to being die-hard recyclers here at Cfx, Inc., we also utilize additional conservation methods such as composting. Composting is the process of salvaging and reusing decayed organic material, primarily as a source of plant fertilizer, and ultimately with the goal of reducing waste in the process.
Cfx extends a portion of their rectory office space to the nonprofit organizations St. Louis Earth Day and Green Dining Alliance, who are big time players in conservation and environmentalism in St. Louis and its surrounding communities. Holding events throughout each year, St. Louis Earth Day and Green Dining Alliance are advocates for all things environmentally-conscious. It was through their encouragement and influence that Cfx came to compost leftover foods, along with many other lesser known practices such as recycling electronic equipment, pharmaceuticals, and many other items most would simply throw in their trash can.
Doing business only a handful of miles away from the West Lake Landfill, all it takes is one drive by on the highway with the window cracked to smell the detriment that resides under the mountains of trash people produce every day, not to mention the radioactive waste that is known to exist in that landfill (along with countless others). While we can’t fix our waste problem overnight, we can all contribute to a better tomorrow. Cfx invites you to join us in raising awareness for more effective and responsible recycling and waste disposal.
