Our final installment of this year’s Black History Month artist series features Kehinde Wiley, a New York-based visual artist and painter famously known for his approach to realism.
Wiley’s work portrays urban "black and brown" people in heroic, powerful, larger-than-life poses. The paintings often blur the boundaries between traditional and contemporary styles and the portrayal of masculinity and physicality as it relates to the perception of black and brown young men.
Wiley’s paintings were initially based on photographs found on the streets of Harlem. Over time, however, Wiley was led toward an international approach, featuring models found in other urban parts of the world such as Senegal, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro.
Kehinde’s models are asked to assume poses found in paintings or sculptures that represent the history of their surroundings. His heroic paintings exhibit a modern style in a unique and contemporary manner, subtly addressing complex issues that many would prefer remain undiscussed. Focusing on the socio-political history of the world, Wiley’s paintings and sculptures “quote historical sources and position young black men within the field of power.”
Kehinde Wiley’s work is found in many public collections throughout the world, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art; Brooklyn Museum; Detroit Institute of Arts; Kansas City Museum; The Jewish Museum (New York) in New York, New York; High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia; Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California; Hammer Museum, in Los Angeles, California; and the Milwaukee Art Museum among many, many others.
Chilled Magazine recently published a great article about Luxco's newly released Ezra Brooks Straight Rye Whiskey. Cfx designed and developed Ezra Brooks' website, along with the majority of their printed materials and lifestyle photography. We're excited to see this brand grow within the bourbon landscape. Cheers, Ezra!

Today is a snowy day here at Cfx in St. Louis, so we thought we'd take a moment to snap a photo of our building getting covered in this beautiful Missouri snowfall. For a closer look behind-the-scenes, be sure to follow our Instagram account.
Our favorite part of the holidays wrapping up (other than puns) is the fresh start that the new year brings – not only in theory, but in people’s lifestyles and daily habits. Nearly everyone sets new year’s resolutions with the goal of giving their lives a facelift. Whether the objective is to eat better, exercise more, spend more time with loved ones, eliminate caffeine from one’s diet, or literally get a facelift, the ringing in of the new year brings unanimous hope and optimism.
Cfx has had a phenomenal, fun, adventurous, and productive year, and it’s our sincerest wish that all of you did as well. Cheers to 2017, wishing you and yours blessings of health and happiness. Happy New Year!
Twas the night before Cfx-mas, when all through the agency, the wi-fi was fast, not one bit of latency. Chairs were pushed under their desks with care, in hopes that next week our clients would be there.
The creatives were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of Creative Cloud danced in their heads. And Chris in his ‘kerchief, and Megan in her cap, never settle their brains, never heard of a nap.
When straight from my cell phone arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to my laptop I flew like a flash, powered it up and entered my pass(word)…
A notification on the inbox of my company account, with the luster of work, there’s no time for that now. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a holiday email, and one full of cheer.
"Now, Nick! now, Tyler! now, Adam and Wesley! On, Chris! On, Megan! on, Amy and CC! To the creative team, who has earned some time off! Now run away! Run away! Run away all!"
As clients check out before Christmas day comes, we break from the keyboards to type with our thumbs. Posting on Facebook like, “What’s there to do?”, with Friday off work, and Monday off, too.
And then, with a sound, I heard on my tablet, a Facebook message, I checked it by habit. I began reading, and then heard a sound, down the chimney St. Nick came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, in one hand his iPhone, in the other his Nook. A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, it looked like a man purse, or something like that.
His eyes-how they twinkled! Reflecting the screen! Santa got a “Like”, and boy those eyes gleamed! The corners of his mouth were drawn up like a bow, and the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a vape pen held tight in his teeth, and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a plaid shirt and a moustache and bells, he said, “Milk and cookies? I’d rather have Rebel Yell.”
He was a new age Santa, a hipster let’s say, you likely wouldn’t notice on any other day. A bite of the cookie and one sip of bourbon, and Santa’s sled started a-swervin’.
He mumbled some words, and went straight back to work, and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose, and giving a ”suh dude”, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to his sleigh, pulled up GPS, and away he flew to appease all the rest. But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
"Merry Cfx-mas to all, and to all a good-night!"
This time of year, nearly everyone gets into the holiday spirit. People start decking the halls and trimming the trees, seasonal music pours from storefronts, and a handful of radio stations switch to round-the-clock holiday music for the month of December. Huffords Jewelry is one of Cfx Inc.’s clients that fully embraces the holiday.
Cfx once again partnered with Huffords Jewelry — “making [their] spirits bright” by developing a full marketing campaign for the holiday season.
In addition to the store’s seasonal graphics, Cfx also produced digital assets for Huffords' website, along with supporting materials for Huffords’ social media channels, and a corresponding invitation for their annual holiday event.
To sign up for invitations to Huffords Jewelry’s exclusive events, visit their web page here, and be sure to visit their store in Frontenac for the true Huffords experience.
Cfx, Inc. owners, Chris Frank and Megan Frank, brought back an old tradition this year when they surprised their staff with a company holiday trip to Mexico.
Just last week Team Cfx boarded a plane to Riviera Maya for a four-day stint at a resort. The number of laughs and smiles shared by all were in such excess that it’s hard to imagine any other group enjoying themselves more.
Cfx is not only a corporate team, but a group of friends with the bond of a family. We work together, we break for lunch together, and we even travel together. Here’s to many more. ¡Viva Cfxico!
Cfx Inc. was originally enrolled to design Regional Dermatology’s website in mid-2013. The original website served them sufficiently for several years, but in the fashion of all things technological, eventually needed to be refreshed. Cfx was honored to be asked to develop a new, responsive and user-friendly website for patients to more effectively interact with Regional Dermatology and learn about their skin care services.
Located in Festus, Missouri, Regional Dermatology is a private dermatology practice owned and operated by dermatologist and dermapathologist, Dr. Sarah Jensen. Offering a wide range of services both medical and cosmetic, Regional Dermatology provides care from a dual board certified staff, serving patients of all ages and treating a broad spectrum of skin conditions. To see a full description of the services they offer on their new and improved website, visit www.regionaldermatology.com.
Perhaps it’s a growing awareness in the community, or perhaps it’s just a product of getting older … either way, it’s hard to deny the importance of recycling. In addition to being die-hard recyclers here at Cfx, Inc., we also utilize additional conservation methods such as composting. Composting is the process of salvaging and reusing decayed organic material, primarily as a source of plant fertilizer, and ultimately with the goal of reducing waste in the process.
Cfx extends a portion of their rectory office space to the nonprofit organizations St. Louis Earth Day and Green Dining Alliance, who are big time players in conservation and environmentalism in St. Louis and its surrounding communities. Holding events throughout each year, St. Louis Earth Day and Green Dining Alliance are advocates for all things environmentally-conscious. It was through their encouragement and influence that Cfx came to compost leftover foods, along with many other lesser known practices such as recycling electronic equipment, pharmaceuticals, and many other items most would simply throw in their trash can.
Doing business only a handful of miles away from the West Lake Landfill, all it takes is one drive by on the highway with the window cracked to smell the detriment that resides under the mountains of trash people produce every day, not to mention the radioactive waste that is known to exist in that landfill (along with countless others). While we can’t fix our waste problem overnight, we can all contribute to a better tomorrow. Cfx invites you to join us in raising awareness for more effective and responsible recycling and waste disposal.
For the last six hundred days, media channels have been flooded with political advertisements campaigning either for or against one of the many political candidates running for office this election. Lately, those ads have increased in number and frequency to the extent that it’s nearly impossible to think about anything other than who we will vote for in tomorrow’s presidential election.
Election season always proves to be a tense time. Most people are heavily focused on the views of the candidate they support, and in disagreement with whomever represents the opposing party, but the one thing we all often forget is that in the United States of America we have the luxury and the legal right to vote. In other parts of the world citizens aren’t given the option to choose their next leader from a pool of qualified candidates, or to choose at all in many instances.
"If you give up on the idea that your voice can make a difference, then other voices will fill the void." -Barack Obama
Here in the U.S. we’re given every opportunity and resource to help us make a sound decision in determining the future of our country. Our government effects everything from healthcare to schools to civil rights, and our right to vote is monumental in that regard. Voting is a way for our voices to be heard as individuals, and to formally register our choice for the person that will most effectively represent the best interest of our country.
As if you haven’t heard it 1,000,000 times already, tomorrow is General Election Day. While many of you might still be on the fence, drowning in the drama engulfing this election, it is tremendously important that you get out there and exercise your right to vote as an American citizen. Oh, and don’t forget to take an “I Voted” selfie or it didn’t happen.

A common undertaking for St. Louis-based advertising agency Cfx, Inc. is to update a company’s website. These updates typically align with other initiatives such as a complete brand refresh, increasing a brand’s credibility, or supporting a new creative campaign. Naturally, advertising agencies need to update and maintain their own web presence as well, if for no other reason than to keep their work examples fresh and relevant.
With a fantastic collection of new work added to the Cfx, Inc. portfolio this year, and some exciting changes happening internally throughout 2016, a new website seemed like the perfect compliment to all that has been going on within the walls of Cfx.
Upon visiting Cfx’s updated website, you will be able to view examples of our most recent work, information about the company’s culture and philosophy, and photos of the historic church that owners Chris Frank and Megan Frank renovated into a state-of-the-art agency and photo studio.
Recently, White Castle came to Cfx with the assignment of handling the production of the layouts of their menu boards and outdoor boards for upcoming menu items for all of their nearly 400 restaurants, as well as all indoor and outdoor signage ranging from billboards to table tents and everything in between, allowing Cfx a notable stake in the advertising work of White Castle.
After exceeding the expectations of White Castle‘s marketing executives,Cfx Inc. has now been placed in charge of the production of all White Castle signage throughout the country. New food items and promotional initiatives are constantly being developed, meaning Cfx storms the proverbial castle on a daily basis. The next wave of creative pieces are nearing completion currently, and we’ve even already started on the promotional layouts to follow that.
With so much more to come (including exciting news that we’ll reveal later this year), we’re happy to share with you the smoothies (errr … fruits) of our labor. Look out for the next round of creative pieces, which are sure to excite your tastebuds.
