The third installment of our Black History Month artist series features Nick Cave. Raised in central Missouri, Nick Cave is an artist, educator, and messenger. Cave combines visual and performing arts through a wide variety of mediums including installation, video, sculpture, performance, and sound.
Cave is well known for his Soundsuits, sculptural forms based on the scale of his body. Soundsuits camouflage the body of the wearer, creating a second skin that conceals race, gender, and class, forcing the viewer to look without judgment.
